Small Home Improvements Which Make a Big Difference
Small changes really can make a big difference when it comes to making your home look and feel more appealing. Whether you’re planning to sell up in 2016 or just want to inject some life into your living space, there are plenty of cheap and cheerful ways to go about it. Not all home improvements call for taking out a new mortgage! Here are some pointers for making a drastic difference with little cash.
- Spruce up the orangery
If you have an orangery or conservatory, it is probably the coldest and most unused room at the house at this time of year. Regardless of how you decorate the space, cold is uninviting. Invest in a little electric heater and hide it in a corner behind a chair or sofa. Make sure the room has warmed up before you have any house viewings. Once the space is nice and warm, you’ll be more inspired to create a decorative theme and add flowers and candles to create a warm, homely feel.
- Re-grout the bathroom
As an easy DIY job, this can make a world of difference in your bathroom. As well as getting rid of muck, it makes the room look brighter and fresher – remember prospective buyers take the bathroom very seriously.
- Add more lighting
The lighting in a room plays a bigger part than many of us realise. You have to get it right, so not too bright and not too dim. This is easier done with plenty of choices – floor lamps, spotlights, table lamps and dimmer switches on overhead light fixtures. You may also want to add cabinet lighting in the kitchen and low hanging lights in the dining room.
- Window dressing
Your windows are your frame to the outside world, so it’s important they are pleasing on the eye. It’s amazing what difference a lighter coloured curtain or piece of voile can do to a room. You can also get creative with blinds so you have a practical and stylish finish.
- Paint job
It’s a bit of a cliché, but a fresh lick of paint really can make all the difference. Colour trends come and go so with a small amount of paint you can update the feature wall in your lounge quite frequently. A quick paint job doesn’t just apply to walls either – for a quirky update, why not paint some of your furniture a new colour, or the fireplace?
Follow these tips and your home should be looking lovelier already.
