How to Spruce up the Patio
Your patio will be in the limelight during the summer months – is it looking its best? Perhaps it is a few years old and could do with an upgrade, but most of the time it just needs a little revamp to help it look brand new again. If your garden patio could do with sprucing up, we’re on hand with some helpful tips.
A good wash
Your patio is like everything else in your home – it needs a deep clean every now and again! While we’ve had lots of rain already this spring and summer, nothing compares to a really good scrub. Whether it is block paved, landscaped or a decked patio, it’s important to clean it thoroughly as the first step. A jet wash is a great idea for most patios – you won’t believe the colour your flagstones return to! Otherwise you can pour hot water and scrub it with a large brush.
Garden furniture doesn’t last as long as indoor furniture, as it has to deal with the elements all year round. With this in mind, every few years you should look to update your furniture. Wooden furniture can be repainted, but plastic or metal tables and chairs will often need replacing. If you’re going to paint the furniture, why not go for a bright shad to bring more colour into your patio? Blues and oranges are great for giving your patio a colour pop.
Let there be light
Your patio and garden isn’t just for enjoying the sunshine – you can sit out at night too and enjoy balmy evenings while you can. To make the patio look inviting after dark, however, you need some good lighting. Security lights on the house simply won’t do! Solar lights are perfect as they use the power from the sun all day to light up when it goes dark. Lanterns and fairy lights make an outdoor space feel cosy, and you can also think about candles on the table too.
Warm it up
The patio isn’t complete without one extra item – which generates light and heat. There’s nothing like a real fire to add some brightness, and a fire also keeps people warm if the evenings aren’t as humid as you’d hoped. Choose from stylish fire pits and rustic looking chimeneas, whichever best suit your patio.
Have a great summer!
