Today is budget day. What will our beloved chancellor have in his battered old briefcase (really George, 15 quid at TK Maxx, treat yourself).
No doubt there will more to pay for booze (so we can’t afford to drown our sorrows when we find out how badly off we will be) and cigarettes (so we can’t afford to die early and stop being a burden on the NHS).
What about lowering VAT for home improvements? This will create work for builders and suppliers, improve the quality of the housing stock and increase the energy efficiency of many homes. Unlike many industries the vast majority of goods used in home improvements are produced in this country, so the wealth stays here.
Come on Mr Osbourne, do your bit for Britain. You could even buy from Prior Canopies yourself. How about a nice door canopy outside number 11, a car port at Westminster, or some lovely decorative shutters at Chequers. Don’t forget to keep the receipts for the expenses though!
